Project 18151 Moving in the Right Direction at the Heesen Shipyard

Project 18151 Moving in the Right Direction at the Heesen Shipyard.

Progress is good in Oss, Holland where SuperYachtsMonaco is representing the owner and providing full Project Management services for the build of an exciting new Heesen motor yacht.

The design is for a 51m vessel built in aluminium for a high-performance requirement. At full speed, the new build yacht will do 25 knots which was a very strict requirement of the owner who reasoned “I don’t have much holiday and I want to spend it somewhere nice not in travelling to reach the place”. There is a certain amount of secrecy around the project specifics as is often the case with new yacht constructions, but we can say at this point that the yacht is designed both on the interior and exterior by the team at Eidsgaard Design in London who are increasingly the yacht designers of the moment. In a departure for Heesen Yachts, this is an entirely custom build with a very different spin on exterior styling. Expect a very sleek racing exterior with significant amounts of glass which Eidsgaard is especially excited about. The unique custom twist continues on the interior where the layout is dramatically different from that which Heesen aficionados have become accustomed to. Without spoiling the surprise, we can say that there is a stunning “winter garden” at the aft of the yacht which is designed to take advantage of the owner’s long season which can encounter some of the cooler weather that is common in the Mediterranean’s shoulder months. As the name suggests, it will allow the owner and his guests to sit “outside” while still having protection from the elements.

At present, the yacht is approximately one year away from delivery with hotworks completed onboard. Construction is well advanced with almost all of the filler on both the hull and the superstructure finished. Inside the yacht cable pulling and wiring works are in full swing with a mass of coloured lines evident in every space. The interior fit out for built in furniture is also well underway, and the shape and ultimate purpose of each space start to become apparent to even the uninitiated. The yacht sits in the large new shed that Heesen have built in their quest to built larger and larger yachts to meet the demand of the brand’s clientele, and as the first yacht to occupy the space there is a sense of privilege to be in such a state of the art hall. The yacht is due to be delivered in early 2018, and all signs are that she will be on time just as almost every Heesen is. The yard works to a meticulous and well-organised timetable and rarely falls behind in any area. In support of SuperYachtsMonaco and the Eidsgaard team are the technical wizards from Superyacht Consultancy Limited (also trading as Technical Marine UK Limited) who quality control the build on the owner’s behalf and have introduced all manner of improvements in cooperation with the yard throughout the process. So, we are on the home straight in the build of this extraordinary new Heesen and getting more excited by the day to see her launched and delivered to her Owners. We will keep you updated!
