In partnership with the Clear Ocean Pact foundation, SuperYachtsMonaco pledges to reduce the plastic footprint of our charter fleet
SuperYachtsMonaco is proud to announce that we are one of the first charter brokers to adopt the Clear Ocean Pact.
The yachting industry’s only nonprofit, nonbiased foundation, the Clear Ocean Pact was launched at the Superyacht Forum in November 2018. Founded the previous year by Richard Orme, this initiative aims to reduce plastic pollution across the superyacht industry.
Based on a series of pledges, the Clear Ocean Pact aims to raise awareness of the impact of plastic on the ocean. Using a 5-point plan as a starting point, the foundation will encourage the superyacht industry to find alternatives to single-use plastic onboard.
Pledges include eliminating the use of bottled drinking water, filtering microplastic waste and reducing the number of single-use plastic items onboard. With these simple and achievable goals, the foundation hopes to help superyacht owners, guests and crew change their impact on the environment.
The Clear Ocean Pact estimates that on average, a single superyacht uses up to 19 000 plastic water bottles during a year. Finding an alternative to bottled water would, therefore, save around 300kg of single-use plastic per yacht, representing a real and immediate change.
18 superyachts have already committed to the 5-point pledge and the foundation hopes to involve 1000 superyachts and crews by the year 2020.
Yachts who adopt the pact will be encouraged to share ideas about tackling plastic pollution and to promote the pact both on and offshore.
At SuperYachtsMonaco, we are delighted to be working with the Clear Ocean Pact foundation and raising awareness with our clients and crews. As a leading agent representing some of the world’s most exclusive yachts, our Central Agents are dedicated to promoting sustainability within our charter fleet.
Since partnering with the foundation, our charter yachts TELEOST and IRISHA have already adopted the dynamic 5-point plan. Moving forward, we aim to ensure that our entire CA charter fleet also pledges to the Clear Ocean Pact.
We believe that this pact confirms our commitment to the environment and are proud to be among the foundation’s first partners. We are fully committed to spreading the word about reducing plastic consumption and look forward to leading an industry-wide change from within.
