One of Cantiere delle Marche’s most notable projects is the Darwin Class, a series of luxury explorer yachts ranging in size from 86 to 148 feet. The Darwin Class yachts are designed to be rugged and durable, with features such as ice-class hulls, reinforced steel construction, and long-range capabilities that make them ideal for exploring remote destinations.

Clients can work closely with Cantiere delle Marche’s design team to customise their yacht’s layout, furnishings, and finishes to their exact specifications, ensuring that each yacht is truly one-of-a-kind. Cantiere delle Marche’s commitment to quality and innovation has earned them numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2020, the company was named “Best Explorer Yacht Builder” at the World Superyacht Awards, and their Darwin Class yacht M/Y Crowbridge was named “Best Explorer Yacht” at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards.

CdM Yachts: History

Cantiere delle Marche s a relatively young shipyard, founded in 2009 by a group of experienced yacht builders and marine industry professionals. The company is based in the Marche region of Italy, which has a rich maritime tradition and is renowned for its high-quality boatbuilding expertise.

Since its inception, Cantiere delle Marche has established itself as a leading producer of custom-built luxury yachts, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. One of the company’s first milestones was the launch of the Nautilus series, a range of innovative and eco-friendly yachts that quickly gained recognition in the yachting industry.

Another significant milestone for CdM Yachts was the launch of the Darwin Class in 2016, a line of innovative explorer yachts that have redefined the traditional idea of what an explorer yacht should be. The Darwin Class yachts are known for their rugged yet luxurious interiors, advanced technological features, and exceptional sea-keeping capabilities.

In 2019, Cantiere delle Marche launched the Ancona Class, a series of high-performance yachts designed for long-range cruising and exploring remote destinations. These yachts feature cutting-edge technology and sustainable materials, making them some of the most environmentally friendly yachts on the market.

Awarded CdM Yachts

Despite being so new to the Superyacht world, Cantiere delle Marche has made a notable splash in the industry. CdM Yachts have won an impressive number of awards in the past decade, quickly becoming comparable to many shipyards that have existed for generations longer.

A few of their most notable awards include:

  • In 2015, CdM Yacht’s Darwin Class 107 was awarded the coveted recognition of “Boat of the Year” at the Boat of the Year Awards. They managed to snag this award, despite being just one of 35 fantastic finalists spanning seven divisions to be nominated. Darwin Class 107 has since been renamed STORM. She first premiered at the Cannes Boat Show, and her interior and exterior have been continuously heavily praised. STORM presents a length of 32.6 metres (or 107 feet), with an impressive build of steel and aluminium. Incredibly, despite STORM being Cantiere delle Marche’s first build over 100 feet, they still managed to win such a prestigious title. The interior design was overseen by the Italy-based team at PFA Studios.
  • In 2021, The first of Flexplorer CdM Yachts, AURELIA, won big at the World Superyacht Awards in Monte Carlo and the World Yachts Trophy in Cannes. Her exterior was designed by Hydro Tec who are based out of Italy and motivated by their founder, Sergio Cutolo’s passion for marine element and sailing, which he has carried with him from a very young age. The state-of-the-art interior was a team project, brought to life by Margherita Casprini and Francesco Paszkowski Design, both Italian based designers with 13+ and 247+ superyacht interiors respectively designed. AURELIA is designed with an aluminium superstructure and steel hull.
  • In 2023, at the World Superyacht Awards their sturdy ACALA vessel took home the reputable Neptune trophy, in the Displacement Motor Yachts 499 GT and below, 40 to 44.9 metre category. According to BOAT International the judges applauded “ACALA’s rugged good looks, her well-sized engines that provide a top speed of 15.3 knots and a 7,506-nautical- mile range at 10 knots, excellent crew areas, a superb diving store and her elegant and modern interior. Their summary was that this is a true explorer yacht, well conceived and built, that perfectly met all of her owner’s needs. As such, she is an extremely deserving winner.” Her interior came together through the work of Horacio Bozzo, a yacht design and naval architect team formed in Italy. The interior was designed by the Mexico City based team at Simon Hamui Design Studio.

Unique Qualities of CdM Yachts

Cantiere delle Marche is an anomaly on many fronts. CdM was formed in 2010, a period that was a less than ideal time for the yacht industry due to the global financial crisis. Despite this, CdM has grown to be one of the most remarkable shipyards in the world for their work in constructing explorer vessels made of steel and aluminium. This is largely thanks to their stellar institutors. Founders Ennio Cecchini, Vasco Buonpensiere, and Gabriele Virgili used their combined knowledge of the industry, entrepreneurial spirit, marketing skills, and undeniable passion to beat the odds and cement themselves in superyacht history through their plethora of magnificent vessels and prestigious awards.

Although they have only been in the industry for about fifteen years, CdM Yachts lead the market of displacement hulls (for steel and aluminium material) ranging from lengths of 24 to 45 metres. For those who are not familiar, displacement yachts travel through the water by using water to push themselves along and are configured to cut through the water by ways of limited propulsion.

CdM Yachts’ Flexplorer Fleets

On top of this, Flexplorer CdM Yachts have been making waves in the superyacht industry since this series was first launched in 2020 with their award-winning AURELIA vessel. The Flexplorer models were named appropriately as their purpose is to be able to flexibly accommodate to their owner’s wishes and preferences, while still maintaining key features that allow them to be able to travel far and wide in absolute comfort. Every model features impeccable technology and extensive amenities including spacious interiors to oblige guests, crew, and storage. Plus they provide optimal fuel technology and lengths ranging from 40 to 45 metres.

A few of their most noteworthy Flexplorer CdM Yachts:

  • The Flexplorer 132 has a length of 40.41 metres with a cruising speed of 10 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots. She has a harmonious balance of indoor and outdoor space, with her main deck being especially comfortable and spacious.
  • The Flexplorer 146 3 is a voluminous three-deck fleet coming in at 44.5 metres with a cruising speed of 10 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots.
  • The Flexplorer 146 4 is a grand quadruple deck ship perfect for enjoying privacy and hosting unforgettable affairs. She boasts 44.5 metres in length with a cruising speed of 10 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots.
